Brenden Aaronson injury: Leeds star suffers ‘sore one’ v Blackburn
Brenden Aaronson suffered a “heavy knock” which could have provoked a concussion check as Leeds United take on Blackburn Rovers, according to Chris Iwelumo.
Iwelumo, speaking live on Sky Sports+ [1 January, 15:12], assessed the situation as Aaronson was hit by a seemingly inadvertent flying elbow from Blackburn’s Ryan Hedges to sustain an eye injury, as 2025 begins against the fellow promotion chasers.
The American, who netted the vital winner on 29 December to take all three points at Derby County, appeared to recover despite initial concerns after a brief check following the altercation.
“It might be his vision there for Aaronson,” Iwelumo explained on co-commentary at Elland Road.
“It’s concussion they have to look at as well if it’s a heavy knock to the head. There was no intent, Ryan Hedges’ arms just come up as he’s running and it’s a complete accident.
“It’s a sore one, though – it’s an elbow right to the eye.”
Brenden Aaronson one of the key Leeds United marksmen
When several returning loanees rocked back up at Thorp Arch for pre-season, there was certainly plenty of ironing to do in Daniel Farke’s squad.
As the vast majority ventured elsewhere either on further loans or permanent exits, Aaronson was reintegrated into the Whites squad as expected [Graham Smyth, 10 June] and has been an excellent performer.
If not for his occasional inconsistency in front of goal and in the creative department, the USMNT marksman would be an outright Premier League player.

But that serves to the benefit of Leeds and Farke, who is currently getting the best out of the attacking midfielder who is justifying his place in the team ahead of some serious competition.
Depth will increase even further at Elland Road with a January of further recruitment planned, but for now, the 26-year-old looks to be proving to his manager he can be that creative inspiration to fire the club back to the top flight.
