The Leeds United press conference was a bit earlier today with Marcelo Bielsa due in court over his Lille dispute later on this afternoon.

We were hoping for good news about Kalvin Phillips but there was nothing definitive either way, with Bielsa saying he is a doubt.

However, Rodrigo is definitely out along with Pablo Hernandez and Ian Poveda. The three attackers will leave a hole that will likely see Joe Gelhardt on the bench again.

Long-term injured, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Gaetano Berardi are also missing, although the latter is now back in training.

Bielsa was talking from Thorp Arch this morning ahead of the 4.30pm kick-off on Sunday from the Emirates.

Big miss

Kalvin Phillips will be a big miss if he doesn’t make it and with the other absentees, we’re still waiting for a time when Marcelo Bielsa has a full squad to choose from.

Incredibly, that hasn’t happened since he arrived.

Phillips is the one player that Leeds struggle to do without, though.

That’s a sign of how good a player he is but also of how thin the Leeds squad is in certain areas.

Robin Koch was signed with cover for that position in mind but he’s out until the spring. Leeds will be adding a player who can play the holding midfield role in the summer but until then we just have to hope that Phillips doesn’t miss too much of the rest of the season.

In all likelihood, it won’t really matter if he does.

The bottom three this season are so bad that just one more win will see Leeds safe. Certainly, another six points will be enough unless something really unlikely happens.

The other exciting take from the press conference is that Joe Gelhardt will likely be on the bench again with Hernandez missing.

But there will be more speculation about Pablo’s future with this latest news.
