BBC Sport pundit wowed by ‘fantastically quick’ Daniel James in Leeds United win v Huddersfield Town

Leeds United winger Daniel James was “fantastically quick” when scoring his club’s first goal against Huddersfield Town, according to BBC Sport pundit Matt Glennon.

The Welsh attacker netted the opening goal of the Championship clash on Saturday (28 October) in the 20th minute.

Elland Road played host to the clash, which the hosts won 4-1 thanks to braces from James and Crysencio Summerville as Michal Helik scored for the visitors.

“That was fantastically quick and a fantastic finish,” Glennon said on BBC Radio Leeds, as quoted by BBC Sport. “Tom Edwards was up for the Huddersfield throw-in and just can’t get back.

“The only thing I’d say is has Yuta Nakayama got close enough and given his goalkeeper sufficient cover there?”

Superb display

Leeds were rampant from the very first whistle against Huddersfield, with the hosts not allowing their opponents any breathing space.

And that is exactly what Whites manager Daniel Farke would have wanted from his players, particularly given the circumstances.

The first circumstance was that it was at Elland Road, with the Leeds faithful expecting a big display from the hosts. The second was that Farke needed a response from his players after their disappointing 1-0 loss to Stoke City on Wednesday (25 October).

But even this display against the Terriers perhaps exceeded the manager’s expectations, with the likes of James and Summerville enjoying superb individual performances in the final third.

Now it is about kicking on from here, with Farke hoping that the loss to the Potters was a mere blip in an otherwise successful season that ends in promotion. Up next, however, is a very tricky challenge away to high-flying Leicester City on Friday (3 October).

In other Leeds United news, an unusual clause not possible in one country has been used on one Whites loanee, with a permanent exit now on the cards.
