BBC pundit wanted Craig Dawson sent off as new footage emerges from Leeds United win at Wolves

Ashley Williams believes Wolves defender Craig Dawson should have been sent off for an ugly challenge on Leeds United winger Jack Harrison at Molineux on Saturday.

Leeds won 4-2 in the West Midlands on 18 March with Wolves having two players shown red cards.

However, Wolverhampton-born Williams wanted another Wolves player to be handed his marching orders by referee Michael Salisbury after Dawson, 32, lunged in on man of the match Harrison in the 37th minute.

Speaking on Match of the Day about the incident on Saturday night (18 March, 18m36s), Williams said: “This one, I feel like Dawson’s a bit of a lucky boy to get away with a yellow card on this.

“Yes, Harrison slips but when you see it from this angle, he ends up just going over the top a little bit and it’s right on Harrison’s ankle.

“Wolves have been lucky there.”

Ugly

Wolves really are in trouble if they think this is how you play football.

Harrison and Luke Ayling could have both spent the night in the hospital if challenges by Dawson and Jonny Otto were marginally worse.

Jonny was sent off in the 84th minute for a horrific lunge on Ayling, who was lucky to escape serious injury.

It wasn’t much different to this Dawson challenge on Harrison with the ex-West Ham defender putting his studs down to the Leeds winger’s ankle.

Matheus Nunes was sent off as a substitute late on for protesting Rodrigo’s late goal.

Wolves have lost their heads.

They may be 13th in the league but they’re only three points clear of the relegation zone and have played two more games than 18th-placed West Ham and one more game than Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Leicester and Bournemouth.

Wolves are one of those clubs who have lost their shine and look as though they could be hurtling towards the Championship if they’re not careful.

Leeds, on the other hand, have two wins and a draw in their last four Premier League games.

Javi Gracia is doing bits.
