BBC man relays crunch Covid-19 Championship results, 8 positives from 6 clubs ahead of kick-off

The EFL has announced the latest round of Covid-19 test results from the Championship.

2,213 players and staff were tested over the past week and eight individuals have tested positive from six clubs.

Any individuals testing positive in these tests would now obviously miss the opening fixtures, which kick-off this weekend.

The EFL has now switched to weekly reporting and confirmed that it won’t comment on any individuals or clubs affected.

BBC journalist Adam Pope relayed the news from the EFL on Wednesday lunchtime.

Leeds have a policy of not commenting on any test results so we’re unlikely to get any information about players until Marcelo Bielsa’s press conference later this week.

We’re still waiting for the details to be confirmed but we’re expecting the virtual press conference to be held on Friday.

Fingers crossed that Leeds aren’t one of the teams affected. So far, the only scare has been the Daily Mail report from June 4 that said at least one person from Leeds had produced a positive test.

Rumours spread that it was a player from the Under-23s but the club hasn’t made a comment on the record and we’ve had no confirmation from other sources.

With no injury issues that we know of bar Jean-Kevin Augustin, Bielsa could have a near-full squad to pick from if Leeds aren’t affected by these test results.

Adam Forshaw is the only other player out and he hasn’t played in 2020.

Other clubs have been releasing statements and we do expect to find out some of the players that have been affected over the next 24 hours.
