Barry Douglas sends message to Leeds fans after first start since January v Blackburn

It’s fair to say that Barry Douglas has been a bit of a disappointment for Leeds United since signing from Wolves.

Leeds fans were excited to sign the player who had been so devastating on the left for Wolves in their promotion season.

However, he’s never hit those heights again and has only played a bit part in Bielsa’s side this season.

At Wolves, he scored five goals and added 15 assists in just 42 games. He’s played 41 games for Leeds and hasn’t scored, adding just five assists.

Douglas got another chance against Blackburn on Saturday and grasped it with both hands.

He put in a brilliant display on the left, both defensively and going forward, and he sent a message to fans on his triumphant return.

On his personal Twitter account he said, “3 more points to our goal” and added a strong-arm emoji and the hashtag #keepbelieving.”

Douglas had the highest pass accuracy of any player on the pitch on Saturday at 88% and made the most ball recoveries (nine). He also made three crosses, created two chances and made two tackles. [LUFCDATA]

He was rated the fifth-best player on the pitch, with an impressive 7.1 score from WhoScored.

The three points move Leeds a lot closer to the dream. Leeds have five games left, starting against Stoke, and need just 10 points to secure promotion regardless of other results.

Another three points on Thursday would almost bring the Premier League within touching distance and we think Douglas has done enough to be another part of the journey.
