Bamford nowhere to be seen as Leeds United board plane ahead of West Ham trip
Patrick Bamford was not seen to be among the Leeds United players making their way to London to play West Ham.
Leeds fan ‘GoosePower’ shared images on his personal Twitter account on Saturday that showed the squad at Leeds-Bradford Airport ahead of boarding a plane to London.
Marcelo Bielsa is clearly seen alone and it is understood that while Bamford, 28, wasn’t present, Pascal Struijk and Rodrigo were there.
On Friday, Bielsa told the media that Bamford, Struijk and Rodrigo could all be available to play [Phil Hay].
Bielsa wasn’t exactly conclusive when he spoke about Bamford at his press conference on Friday afternoon.
At the start, he suggested that Bamford will not be playing because he’s still short of match fitness. As shown on Leeds’ official Twitter account, Bielsa said Bamford’s “recovery still hasn’t been finalised”.
He then said later on that he, Struijk and Rodrigo could all be involved against West Ham so maybe something got lost in translation.
Either way, it doesn’t seem as though Bamford will be involved.
Of course, he could be travelling separately from the rest of the squad for one reason or another but we’d expect Bielsa to want everyone to stay together.
We’ll find out for sure an hour ahead of kick-off on Sunday but if Bamford’s not involved, there’s no reason to be shocked based on the confusion on Friday and also the images that have emerged on Twitter on Saturday.
Leeds have struggled to score goals this season without Bamford but they still have the ability to win matches.
Rodrigo’s potential return means he could start up front but he’s been out for a while now and might need to have to return slowly.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are privately hopeful of a massive injury boost.
