Ally McCoist slams 'silly' Mateusz Klich incident with Jack Grealish in Leeds United loss v Manchester City
Ally McCoist brandished Mateusz Klich as “silly” after the Leeds United midfielder was booked within minutes of being substituted on against Manchester City on Wednesday.
Klich, 32, seems to be on his way out of Leeds with MLS Soccer reporting on 9 December that DC United are in advanced talks to sign the Poland international.
He’s barely played this season in the Premier League but when Jesse Marsch threw him on in the 65th minute to replace Adam Forshaw, he was booked five minutes later was clipping Jack Grealish’s heels before patting the Man City player on the head.
“That’s a silly challenge,” said McCoist on Amazon’s live coverage on Wednesday night (28 December, 09:29pm).
“It really is.
“Arm comes across him, stick out his left foot.”
If you didn’t realise it already, Grealish isn’t the most popular of players at Elland Road.
Klich looks as though he could be on his way out of Leeds United in the coming weeks and that dig at Grealish in front of the home fans could have been a bit of a parting gift from the Poland midfielder.
According to MLS Soccer on 9 December, DC United are in advanced talks to sign Klich.
On 22 December, Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Denis claimed that the deal is now 95 per cent done.
It sure looks as though that could have been Klich’s final game at Elland Road so why not go out with a big of a bang?
Unfortunately, it was less of a bang and more a damp squib as yet again, the Pole came off the bench to little effect for Jesse Marsch.
Moving to the MLS will be a good move for Marcelo Bielsa’s former favourite.
We wish Klich all the best but a replacement is definitely needed if we’re still playing him in games.
