Alan Smith savages Leeds United ace Junior Firpo live on Sky Sports in first half of Brentford showdown

Alan Smith has savaged Leeds United defender Junior Firpo in the opening 45 minutes of the Premier League against Brentford on Sunday afternoon [22 May].

The Spaniard defender gave away yet another couple of cheap fouls but did avoid a booking after consistently getting cautioned this season since arriving.

Smith insisted one of his fouls on Bryan Mbuemo was “careless” and was lucky not to get given that yellow card.

Speaking live on Sky Sports coverage [22 May, 04:10 pm] Smith was far from impressed with the defender after yet another poor challenge in transition.

“Careless challenge,” he said.

“Stand on your feet and jockey, you don’t need to commit like that.”

Aggression.

That is exactly what Jesse Marsch asked for.

Given how poorly disciplined we have been in recent weeks though, you would have thought that Marsch would have asked for it within reason.

Firpo has been our worst offender in terms of cards and fouls this season, and it was no surprise to see him being one of the first names to be blown up.

The Spaniard is showing great passion though in recent weeks, and he has been one of the driving forces pushing us forward when it looked as though games were dead and buried.

We believe that the more consistently he can play, the better he will become if he sticks around at Elland Road.

It is all about adding that quality to his game that he knows he can, and taking away the rash decisions in his games and then we will all be delighted.
