Robin Koch set to make return to action for Leeds U23s v Newcastle

Robin Koch is set to play for the Leeds United Under-23s today against Newcastle at Thorp Arch.

Koch made the bench for the first-team game against Chelsea on Saturday, after Liam Cooper was ruled out with injury, but didn’t get onto the pitch.

The 24-year-old hasn’t played since the reverse fixture against Chelsea back in December.

BBC journalist Adam Pope has said that Koch is “expected” to make his playing return this afternoon.

The game kicks off at 1pm and you can watch it for free live on LUTV or on the official Leeds Twitter account.

Big game for the U23s

Leeds Under-23s are flying high at the top of the table and are 13 points clear of second-placed Stoke.

Newcastle are bottom of the league with just one win in six, and Leeds will be looking for revenge after losing 4-3 in the reverse fixture.

They bounced back from that disappointment with nine straight wins and another victory today would see them close in on the title. Three more wins would confirm it no matter what happens elsewhere.

It’s set to be an exciting if nervy game for Leeds fans who will be desperate to see Koch come through it unscathed.

We think Rodrigo could well play 45 minutes as well as he searches for full fitness after his return from injury.

And Joe Gerhardt and Sam Greenwood have the chance to play themselves in with a shot at the first-team with Patrick Bamford potentially out with injury.

It could be one of the most-watched Under-23s games in a long time.
