Willy Gnonto hasn't enjoyed the best of starts at Fiorentina.

The Italian winger finally made the jump from Elland Road this summer, leaving Leeds United on an inital loan.

Daniel Farke simply couldn't find a spot for the fan favourite in his plans, and respected his wishes to move on.

After failing to force his way out three years ago, he had built himself back up in LS11.

Now at Fiorentina, Leeds fans are keeping a close eye on his progress.

While it may not have started well for Gnonto and Co, there is still plenty of hope for him yet, it seems.

What has been said about Willy Gnonto?

It was another defeat for La Viola in Serie A on Friday, losing 2-1 away from home at Genoa.

That leaves them second bottom in the division on four points, with only Venezia worse off.

Gnonto started and played 81 minutes at Luigi Ferraris, and actually came away with some sort of praise, if you can call it that.

Speaking via fiorentinanews, ex-defender Roberto Galbiati shared his verdict on the defeat and it wasn't good.

"Vanoli wanted to give the team an offensive boost, but something went wrong because the start was horrible," he said.

Picking out Gnonto specifically, Galbiati said: "Gnonto up front was the least bad; I saw a few mistakes, and that's to be appreciated. I saved him in that disastrous first half."

So, it's good to see that he is at least getting praise despite the struggles of those around him.

Real dilemma at Fiorentina

One glance at a team sheet, and you'd be confused as to why things are going so badly.

With David De Gea in net, Radu Dragusin at the back and Beto up top, these are all experienced footballers, especially in the Premier League.

Gnonto on one side and Franco Mastantuono, on loan from Real Madrid, on the wings and the formula is there.

Playing off the left, the Leeds loanee is putting his best foot forward, with one goal in his five appearances.

He's yet to deliver an assist, but given these small mistakes he's making, it's clear that Gnonto is getting on the ball and trying to make things happen.

It doesn't get any easier for them with Como up next, but if it clicks for Gnonto, that will only help Fiorentina, too.

With an £18million option waiting to be used, it will only help Leeds, too.
