Dominic Calvert-Lewin will have another reason to pop up in a big way for Leeds United against Newcastle United.

Of course, the usual motivators such as scoring goals and pushing his team up the table will be there.

However, Daniel Farke will certainly not mind a few external motivating factors emerging into his Leeds camp.

Calvert-Lewin is a favourite in Farke's squad, and that is evidenced by the trust the Leeds manager shows week in and week out in his lineups.

But, on the international stage, the opposite story is true.

Now, Calvert-Lewin could have one final chance to change his fortunes in the eyes of Thomas Tuchel against Newcastle.

This season is bringing about the first extended international break, with four games for the Three Lions taking place over September and October.

That also means for prospective England players, its a great opportunity to add multiple more caps to their collection within one selection.

England's first senior squad of the 2026-2027 season is expected to be confirmed on Friday, 18 September.

This means that Leeds' game against Newcastle is Calvert-Lewin's final chance to potentially push into the squad.

The striker was close to making Tuchel's 2026 World Cup squad, but the German admitted Ivan Toney had just edged past him in his thinking.

Representing his nation is something the Leeds man will want to do more often, and a strong performance against Newcastle could still tilt that into his favour.

That can provide the 29-year-old with more motivation and an increased fire in his belly.

What is Dominic Calvert-Lewin's England competition?

When it comes to Tuchel's England squad, Harry Kane is more or less a guaranteed selection.

Elsewhere, once again Toney is popping up with the goods in the Saudi Pro League, as he has scored 10 goals in just seven games this season.

Ollie Watkins has also made a move out to the Middle East, scoring three goals and assisting two in his opening four games for Al Hilal.

So, Calvert-Lewin, who has scored two goals in five appearances in all competitions, will need a top performance against Newcastle to potentially leapfrog both Watkins and Toney.

It won't be an easy task, but the striker is more than capable of popping up with a couple of goals.
