Welsh media react to Dan James and Ethan Ampadu as Leeds United stars whimper in defeat

Leeds United pair Dan James and Ethan Ampadu haven't enjoyed the best of international breaks so far with Wales.

The Red Dragons have lost both of their opening Nations League fixtures, after promotion to Group A.

A 1-0 defeat to Portgual was followed up by a 2-0 loss away at Denmark on Sunday evening.

Daniel Farke will be watching closely as Amapdu and James both started, with Joe Rodon and Harry Wilson staying behind injured.

Two home games are next for Wales, with Norway and Erling Haaland in town next before a return fixture with Denmark.

Leeds will be hoping for more positive results as Ampadu and James return for Premier League action in LS11.

How did Wales react to Leeds United stars?

It was another poor night for the Red Dragons in the Nations League, as James and Ampadu both started for Craig Bellamy.

Wales Online kept their ratings short and sweet, but still managed to deliver a scathing assessment of the winger.

Rated 5/10, they wrote: "A couple of flashes when his pace caused problems, but was pretty anonymous on the whole. Subbed."

It wasn't much better for Ampadu, described as "really quiet" and given the same rating as his Elland Road teammate.

Ethan Amapdu made headlines in Wales defeat

The defecit could and should have been cut in half towards the end of the contest.

Ampadu won a header, seemingly cleanly, before Neco Williams scored, only for the Leeds captain to be penalised.

Nathan Blake for BBC Wales described the decision as "shocking."

Ampadu was once again all action, but in all honestly, it's hard with some of the players around him.

Charlie Savage started in Denmark, and while a great moment, in reality, he plays for Reading in League One.

On top of that, Josh Sheehan replaced him, someone who plays for Bolton in the Championship.

Ampadu is on a different level to that in midfield, captaining a huge club in the Premier League, and he can't do it all alone.

With Arsenal, Manchester United, Sunderland, Bournemouth, Tottenham and Chelsea all to come after the break, this is a huge period for Leeds.

Hopefully, their international players don't only come back fit, but with some confidence behind them, too.
