Swedish media react to Leeds United star Gabriel Gudmundsson after Graham Potter surprise
It wasn't an international break to remember for Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson.
The Sweden international has endured a strange start to the season, with injury playing its part already.
After missing the end of the last campaign, he picked up another issue in pre-season while in the United States.
Now, he's back fit, but not exactly firing.
After stringing together some performances for Leeds, he's been used sparingly while away with Sweden in the extended break.
While Daniel Farke may be happy, Graham Potter was clearly not taking any risks with the defender.
How did Gabriel Gudmundsson fare in Sweden vs Romania?
It was a successful end to the break for the Swedes, who travelled to Romania in the UEFA Nations League.
An early goal from Viktor Gyokeres sealed all three points.
Gudmundsson started the game, but was replaced as part of a double substitution only 54 minutes in.
Svenskafans rated the defender a 3/5, admitting that it was a shock when he replaced by Potter so early.
"Always think the Leeds defender is stable," they wrote. "Also always a threat going forward as he constantly comes around on the left wing.
"Was surprised when he was substituted."
Fotballskanalen agreed with the rating as well, despite him becoming "loose" on the wing several times.
They recall Gudmundsson taking a heavy hit to win a free-kick, questioning how much he still feels that.
How does Gabriel Gudmundsson return to Leeds?
With the players returning to Thorp Arch from today, it's been an overly successful break compared to others.
Gudmundsson will return fit and raring to go after a positive break with the Swedes.
Sitting top of League B's Group Four with three wins and a draw, they've put themselves in a great position for promotion.
Bosnia and Tarik Muharemovic are just behind, and an intriguing showdown awaits in the next break already.
But now, it's all eyes on Leeds.
With Arsenal to come on Saturday, followed by Manchester United the week after, it's far from easy for the Whites.
Unbeaten in the Premier League, though, Farke will want his side to prove they can compete better with the likes of Arsenal after last season.
Gudmundsson will be key to that.
