Supercomputer predicts Nottingham Forest vs Leeds United in Carabao Cup showdown

Leeds United aim to make it two wins over Nottingham Forest in four days on Tuesday night.

Of course, Daniel Farke's side got their 2026-27 Premier League campaign off to a perfect start against Forest on Saturday.

Anton Stach's 88th-minute free-kick sent the travelling Leeds fans crazy at the City Ground, in what was a memorable way to kickstart a new season.

Forest are out for revenge on Tuesday night, as they welcome the Whites back to their famous old home for a second-round clash in the League Cup.

The Tricky Trees are four-time winners of this competition having last done so in 1990, whilst Leeds have lifted it just the once in 1968.

So, it promises to be a fascinating encounter on Tuesday, as both Farke and Oliver Glasner weigh up interesting team selection decisions.

What is predicted to happen in Nottingham Forest vs Leeds?

With both sides only now entering the competition, we don't yet know how Farke or Glasner will treat the League Cup in terms of importance levels.

Naturally, we can expect to see some changes to the two starting XI's from Saturday, but whether there will be complete overhauls remains to be seen.

Many will have Leeds down as favourites to once again emerge victorious given the weekend's exploits.

However, Opta Analyst's supercomputer doesn't see it that way, as it actually has Forest as the overwhelming favourites to win this cup tie.

Forest are given a 50.8 per cent chance to progress into the third round, compared to the 24.3 per cent propsect of victory handed to Leeds.

A draw has been given a 25.0 per cent chance of happening, which in that event would see the tie go straight to penalties.

But what must Leeds take from their weekend win over Forest and repeat on Tuesday if they are to emerge victorious once again?

Why pressure will be on Leeds' defence for repeat Forest showing

Leeds' Premier League opening-day win at the City Ground was a vintage away performance from Farke's men.

As per FotMob, the Whites only put three shots on target in the entire game, and had 44 per cent possession to Forest's 56.

Despite that, they defended brilliantly when called upon, James Trafford made some smart saves and they then go and pinch the winner late on.

If they are to record back-to-back wins over Forest, Leeds' defence will need to show a repeat of their 19 tackles and 15 interceptions made on Saturday.

They were also considerably stronger in ground duels than Glasner's men, winning 57 per cent of them compared to Forest's 43.

Half of Forest's 12 shots were limited to being from outside the Leeds box too, so limiting their chances from inside 18 yards will be key once again.

If they do that, then a familiar sense of déjà vu will hit the Forest contingent, and open the door to another Leeds away win in Nottingham.
