Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff has dismissed Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder's claims about Leeds United.

Leeds won 3-1 against Middlesbrough to return to the summit of the Championship on Tuesday (10 December) after their Yorkshire rivals failed to beat West Brom on Sunday.

Blades manager Chris Wilder said that the Whites were "miles ahead" of his side after the draw with the Baggies (8 December).

However, former Reading winger McAnuff refuted Wilder's claims [Sky Sports News, 19:40], saying: "No, I wouldn't say that at all.

"It's good management in just trying to deflect a bit of that pressure and that heat.

"In terms of squad wise, they are the two strongest for me. I'd certainly say those are the two for me. With Leeds and the options they have got, particularly in those forward areas, they are certainly going to be a team that is there at the end of the season."

Wilder trying to put pressure on Leeds United

The Blades boss was attempting to put pressure on Daniel Farke's side ahead of their contest with Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

He knows that there is no significant gap in quality between his side and the Elland Road club, they are both contenders for the Championship title, he was just trying to crank up the heat on Farke's team after his side had dropped points.

The Whites did not feel that pressure, however, as they returned to the summit with a huge win over a play-off contending team.

The Championship promotion battle promises to be a thriller this season with plenty of twists and turns along the way with 26 matches still to play.

McAnuff is probably right in his assessment that the Blades and the Whites are the strongest teams in the division.

Meanwhile, Wilder is playing mind games and trying to give his team whatever edge he can in a razor-sharp promotion battle.
