Club will 'take legal action' against Leeds if dispute not settled – report

Leeds United and RB Leipzig look destined for the courts unless the dispute over striker Jean-Kevin Augustin can be settled amicably. 

That's starting to look increasingly unlikely.

Leeds haven't extended the loan of Augsutin, with the player injured. He's only played 48 minutes of football since signing in January and is now back at his parent club.

Now, a report in German outlet Kicker has claimed that RB Leipzig expect the obligation to be honoured and that "Leipzig will take legal action" against Leeds if they try to back out of the deal.

The report goes on to say that Leeds are not interested in signing Augustin but "if necessary, this would be legally enforced" by the German side.

"But first RB Leipzig has to take over the Frenchman's salary from July until Leeds promotion. After that, the lawyers will probably take over."

This is quickly turning into one of the worst transfers we can remember.

If Leeds are forced to spend £18.5m on a player they don't want it would be nothing short of a catastrophe.

But, in the middle of all this, it's important to try to remember the human element.

How must Augustin feel at the moment being unwanted to the extent that clubs are willing to go to court to be rid of him?

He arrived with a good attitude and seemed to be working hard over lockdown, despite arriving out of shape.

Fans took to him initially but have now turned on him as they see him as a complete waste of money.

We feel sorry for Augustin, a player whose career seemed to be destined for the top.

That looks a long way away now and we can only imagine that if Leeds are forced to sign him, that they would then move him on for less money.

We can't see that he's got a future under Bielsa after everything that's happened.
