Phil Thompson has labelled Ashley Barnes' tackle against Leeds United last week as "absolutely outrageous."

The forward only picked up a yellow card for his wild lunge on Stuart Dallas, and the game went onto finish 1-1.

Not many things would make the likes of Thompson bring it up during the international break, but he clearly couldn't believe the decision that was made.

Speaking on the Where's Jeff Podcast the following week after the game, Thompson was stunned by what he saw.

"Burnley should have been down to 10-men," he said.

"Probably one of the worst tackles of the whole weekend was Ashley Barnes' which was about two and a half feet off the ground and nearly cut the lad in half.

"I thought it was absolutely outrageous."

Outrageous.

There is no consistency in the Premier League at the best of times, and now these rule changes could make it even worst.

We are all for adding more contact into our game at times, but that can't be allowed to turn into a full-blown assault at times.

What was wort about this one is that the VAR even checked it, and decided that there was nothing wrong with it - how is that possible?

Liam Cooper was sent off at Manchester City last season for making contact with the man after clearing the ball, yet this worst challenge was only a booking.

Something needs to change, as Thompson says, it was outrageous.
