Phil Hay: Leeds unhappy with Ryan Kent valuation this summer

Leeds United were left unhappy with the £20million valuation on the head of Rangers winger Ryan Kent this summer.

Phil Hay has shared the insight after the window closed this week, with Steven Gerrard surviving another chance of losing his star man.

The Athletic journalist shared that despite Victor Orta tracking Kent over multiple windows, it was never going to happen.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Phil Hay Podcast this morning, Hay shared the major transfer claim.

“I backed the wrong horse, Ryan Kent,” he said.

“The summer as a whole depicts pretty well as the transfer window is masses of moving parts. This all relates to the way Bielsa looks at transfers and valuations.

“They’ve looked at Ryan Kent in multiple windows now. I don’t honestly think they would have done Ryan Kent because I don’t think they liked the valuation of him up at Rangers – £20million.”

Let it go.

It is certainly time to sweep this one under the carpet and move on.

Daniel James arrived as our major addition of the summer on deadline day, and given his Premier League experience, was easily the better choice.

There were reports that Gerrard was worried about a last-gasp swoop from the Whites after his side crashed out of the Champions League, but that never materialised.

Bielsa, Orta and Andrea Radrizzani will all monitor the window very closely, and they know when they are getting value for money.

James started two of the first three games of the season for Manchester United, regardless if they let him go, he was a major part of their side.

Leeds may have been unhappy with Kent’s valuation, but they certainly won’t be missing out given their deal for James.
