'No coincidence' – Karen Carney makes Leeds claim after shock 3-0 loss v Crawley

BBC pundit Karen Carney said Leeds United missed Patrick Bamford as they suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Crawley in the FA Cup on Sunday. 

She also said that Crawley were better drilled and more organised and said it was "no coincidence" that they were first to the ball for their third goal.

It was the biggest upset of the weekend and Leeds rarely looked like scoring in a thoroughly miserable game for Whites fans.

Talking on Match of the Day (BBC1, Sunday, 10.30pm), Carney said that the right balls were coming in for Leeds, but there was no one in the middle to convert.

"It was a fantastic day for them [Crawley]," Carney said.

"If you look at the goal in itself, you have to win first ball, second ball. Crawley were first to it and that's no coincidence., They were well organised and well-drilled this afternoon.

"This is where you miss Bamford, that focal point, someone in the centre, getting those tap-ins. The balls were coming in today but the lack of clinical edge there and the frustration... But look, today was all about Crawley."

No complaints

Leeds United fans have history with Karen Carney, but it's good to see her on Match of the Day and we've got no arguments with what she said last night.

Leeds have struggled with crosses and set pieces at the back all season and we looked hopeless again against Crawley.

To be fair, Liam Cooper was taken off at half-time and Oliver Casey was left exposed at the back. We had no one with any height or presence in the box.

And, at the other end, we're sure Patrick Bamford would have made a difference.

He needed a rest, though, and £27m signing Rodrigo should have been good enough for Leeds.

The jury remains out on Rodrigo, who has shown some brilliance from the number 10 position without making that spot his own.
