Nixon: Leeds contacted for permission to talk to Kalvin Phillips in shock move by int'l manager

There has been lots of talk about Leeds United standout Kalvin Phillips making the England squad for next year's Euros but there's another side who want him to wear their colours.

The Sun's Alan Nixon has claimed that Jamaica have contacted Leeds for permission to talk to Phillips about switching allegiance, in what he calls a "shock approach".

Phillips can play for Jamaica through his dad and they see him as a key player for them in the future.

Nixon claims Gareth Southgate is monitoring Phillips and could give him a call-up to ward off interest from Jamaica.

This is a welcome diversion for us after the avalanche of transfer stories that are doing the rounds at the moment.

It's a cheeky approach from Jamaica but we think the Leeds United midfield maestro is going to be flattered but not interested.

He's got bigger fish to fry on the international stage and with Southgate waiting in the wings and the delayed Euro 2020 finals next year, we're almost 100% sure that Phillips will say, "Thanks but no thanks".

Phillips will be playing in the Premier League next season – the last barrier to being selected by Southgate for England.

And if he puts in the sort of performances that he's done for Leeds in the last two seasons then we think he'll be in the next England squad.

With all due respect to Jamacia, if it came to a straight choice between the two sides, that's no choice at all.
