Liverpool confident of beating Leeds United to sign Aberdeen teenager Calvin Ramsay

Liverpool are "confident" that they will beat Leeds United to sign Aberdeen teenager Calvin Ramsay this summer, Alan Nixon reports.

The 18-year-old full-back was named SFWA Young Player of the Year this week and is wanted by a long list of English sides (SFWA).

Nixon had reported in The Sun recently that the Whites were set to make a last-ditch effort to hijack the youngster's move to Anfield, believing they could convince him with a clearer route to the first team.

But the journalist has today revealed on his Patreon that the Reds feel they are still in pole position, and that the presence of Trent Alexander-Arnold would be a help not a hindrance, as it would provide the chance to learn under the famous Merseysider.

Nixon still believes it will cost around £3million, which both sides are happy to pay.

Outmuscled

It is never satisfying to be barged out of the race by a larger competitor, but Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool can do that to anyone right now.

And Ramsay does indeed appear to be a blossoming talent likely to be a big success in his career.

But in this instance it doesn't need to be a huge blow at Elland Road, as Cody Drameh is set to return from a highly-successful loan at Cardiff City and should be ready to spell Luke Ayling.

It is often a risk for a player as young as Ramsay to move straight to a giant at the top of the Premier League.

But with the Scotland captain Andy Robertson ensconced at the other full-back position and Alexander-Arnold in place it would be a strong learning environment for the young Scot.

Whether he features regularly is another matter, which a player at that stage of his development would surely benefit from.

He only need look across Merseyside to the trials of Nathan Patterson at Everton to see how things could go wrong after a much-heralded move from the SPFL.

Drameh has also stressed his need for first-team football, and after heading to south Wales to get it, he has proven himself ready for a chance.

Losing out on the Dons youngster for Victor Orta could be a blessing in disguise if the Bluebirds loanee can take advantage.
