Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be desperate to be Leeds United's hero against Manchester United this weekend.

The Whites are gearing up for one of their biggest games on the calendar at Elland Road on Sunday.

There is absolutely no love lost between the two sets of supporters, who will be out to earn the bragging rights in the cross-Pennines clash.

Last season, Leeds took four points off their fierce rivals, drawing 1-1 at Elland Road, and famously winning 2-1 at Old Trafford.

After losing at champions Arsenal last weekend, Leeds are keen to rebound in style against Michael Carrick's side.

Leeds' leading marksman Calvert-Lewin could have a crucial role to play, but how has he fared against Man United in the past?

Calvert-Lewin's record against Man United isn't the best

Calvert-Lewin scored 15 goals in all competitions during an impressive first season for Leeds last season.

This time around he has picked up where he left off, contributing four goals in six games in all competitions.

But his career record against Man United is not the strongest it has to be said.

Across all competitions, Calvert-Lewin has come up against the Red Devils on 18 occasions, with 16 of those coming in the Premier League.

In those matches, Calvert-Lewin has scored only twice, both coming for Everton and the last of those coming in a 3-3 draw back in February 2021.

He has also contributed a couple of assists, though, so four goal contributions is a decent return considering the opponent.

Of the 16 Premier League games he has played against them, Calvert-Lewin has been on the winning side three times, has drawn on five occasions, and lost on eight.

Leeds have a real opportunity this weekend

There is no sweeter feeling for a Leeds fan than getting one over Man United.

And it feels like Daniel Farke's side can sense blood against a team and a manager under huge pressure ahead of this contest.

The Red Devils have been poor this season, and were beaten 2-0 by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in midweek.

Following that game, Lisandro Martinez dropped a grenade when he criticised senior figures at Old Trafford, and also seemingly aimed thinly veiled digs at Carrick and his team-mates.

How Leeds would love to pile the pressure on even more on Sunday, and how sweet it would be for one of their best players in Calvert-Lewin to make themselves a hero.
