Leeds United vs Newcastle clash in Premier League predicted by supercomputer

Leeds United will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Newcastle United in the Premier League on Monday.

The Whites were beaten 6-3 by Chelsea in round three of the Carabao Cup in midweek.

That defeat in a nine-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge has slightly dented United's momentum, having started the league campaign in good form.

After kicking off the season with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest, Daniel Farke's men have since drawn 1-1 with Brentford and Brighton.

Newcastle have also made a positive start to life under Matthias Jaissle, as they have also won one and drawn two, while advancing in the cup.

Those unbeaten league starts are on the line on Monday evening as the sides face off at Elland Road.

Farke has some big Leeds selection calls to make against Newcastle after heavily rotating for the Chelsea tie.

With the sides being level on points, a tight contest can be expected in West Yorkshire.

Perhaps due to home advantage, Opta Analyst's supercomputer makes Leeds slight favourites for this clash.

Farke's men have a 41.3 per cent chance of winning, compared to 33.3 per cent chance for Newcastle.

The draw is given a 25.4 per cent likelihood of happening at Elland Road.

Newcastle have scored double the number of goals than Leeds so far in this season's Premier League (six compared to three).

They have also conceded double the number (four versus two).

Interestingly, Newcastle's six goals have come from an expected goals (xG) figure of three, with no team outperforming their xG more so far.

That basically means the Magpies are scoring a lot more goals than expected based on the quality of the chances created.

For context, Leeds' xG is 4.4, so they are actually scoring fewer goals than you would expect.

All things considered, this looks set to be a very evenly contested match, albeit one Leeds are considered favourites to edge.
