Leeds star responds with eight-word Instagram message to fan criticism: 'Not in this shirt'
Cast your minds back to the second half in the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal. Leeds United defender Barry Douglas placed the ball down for a freekick.
The Scotsman has made a name for himself with his set-piece ability over the years, and this was a great chance for the Whites to equalise. Standing behind the goal at the Emirates, the expectation was quite high.
That immediately came crashing down when the ball almost hit us 20 rows back. Douglas is yet to open his Leeds account, and his struggles continued in North London.
As we all know, us Leeds fans can be quite critical. Douglas posted a picture of that freekick on his personal Instagram account on Thursday, only to be met by a message from a fan.
"Technically gifted, just not in this shirt," the fan wrote.
The 30-year-old took it upon himself to respond to that message. Douglas went down the sarcastic route, most likely just to take the high road as he prepares for the clash against Sheffield Wednesday.
"Cheers mate. Happy new year to you too."
Douglas impressed when coming off the bench against West Brom for the second half, and staked his claim even further to cement his spot with a near-perfect display against Arsenal.
Injuries have halted his progress at Elland Road, but should he continue this form, he could play a massive role in the second half of the season in West Yorkshire.
Douglas averages 59.4 passes per 90 minutes according to WhoScored, a stat only bettered by three players - proof that he adds a new dimension down the left for Leeds.
Ezgjan Alioski, who has filled in for Douglas, only averages 43.9 a game, highlighting how much more of a presence the former Wolves man has in possession.
It would be no surprise to see Douglas start against Sheffield Wednesday, and who knows, he could potentially prove this fan wrong at Elland Road.
