Real Oviedo want to send striker Rafa Mujica back to Leeds United early after the 22-year-old has flopped on his season-long loan.

Mujica has only made three cameo appearances for the La Liga 2 side and hasn't got off the bench in the last six games.

Spanish outlet Eldesmarque claims that they've seen enough and want to free up some funds and a place in the squad for a new player in January.

However, the report claims the decision now lies with Leeds, with his loan deal set to run until the summer.

Mujica might have to hang tight

This is Mujica's third loan spell and it hasn't worked out for the youngster.

Mujica arrived from Barcelona on a free transfer and given that simple fact, plenty of Leeds United fans were excited about what he would offer.

That hasn't come to pass.

The report claims that Leeds terminating the loan early could be good for both clubs.

It will save Ovideo money and free them up to add another body in January.

However, we can't really see the benefit for Leeds, unless the club can sort out another loan or a club to take him on a permanent move in January.

If that is the case then it could see Mujica leaving Leeds for good in the next transfer window.

However, given his track record, it's not going to be easy to get any sort of fee for the player.

This is a gamble that just hasn't paid off for Leeds.
