Leeds United have been linked with a move for Tottenham defender Ben Davies in a move that is far away from the priorities that need addressing at Elland Road.

If the Whites are to go on and achieve promotion, there are two glaring areas of the squad that need to be addressed and the links to Davies [Last Word on Spurs] resolve neither of them.

Leeds need to sign a striker this January and recent links to Emmanuel Latte Lath [Leeds United News] showcase their awareness of it while a replacement for Illan Meslier is surely a necessity.

Davies would be a decent addition at this level, but given the likely fee and wages, Leeds need to focus more on the areas that could hold them back before making any move for a player like that.

Leeds United have had a slow start to the window

While the same could be said about many clubs, Leeds are in pole position to go on and achieve promotion and one or two early additions would surely push them over the promotion line.

The lack of movement suggests that claims made by Graham Smyth regarding the only expected transfer business are worryingly accurate.

There are weeks remaining in the window and that can't be forgotten, but if Leeds are to hold themselves back in the window it could have a detrimental effect on their promotion chances with rival clubs looking to strengthen.

Of course, one of the big things for the Whites this month will be to retain their own players with the likes of Ao Tanaka and Willy Gnonto undoubtedly going to be of interest.

All eyes will be on the coming days and weeks as the transfer window will surely paint a clearer picture of the state of the promotion race this season.
