Leeds United: Ethan Ampadu among best who could have played for England
Leeds United midfielder Ethan Ampadu has continued to impress since his 2023 move to Elland Road.
Arriving on a permanent basis from Chelsea after a series of loan spells, the midfielder would lead the Whites back to the Premier League, before taking to the top flight like a duck to water.
Captaining Daniel Farke's side as they secured survival, the Welshman proved pivotal to the Leeds success.
As a result, he would be rewarded following the end of the season, putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal at Elland Road.
For his country, he remains the heartbeat, having amassed 63 caps for Wales, now captain as well.
With this in mind, he has now been recognised as part of a specific list involving the England national team.
Wales may not appreciate Ethan Ampadu selection in England list
At just 17, Ampadu would make his first appearance for Wales - coming on as a second-half substitute against France.
Making his first competitive appearance in 2018, his stature within the national team would continue to grow, despite a series of loan spells at club level.
In 2026, he is vital for both club and country, with Wales boss Craig Bellamy labelling him "beyond impressive."
Now, Give Me Sport have named him as the 15th best player who could have played for England, but chose not to.
Born in Exeter, the option was there for Ampadu to represent a hatful of countries, with England, Wales, Ireland and Ghana making up the list.
Elsewhere on the list, sit Leeds target Harry Wilson, Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise and Erling Haaland - all of whom would be eligible to wear the Three Lions shirt.
Ampadu will have his sights set on future Leeds list
Ampadu is far from the most talented player to ever play for the Whites.
But, when his impact is considered, he will go down as one of the most influential, with it proving vital in a time of need at Elland Road.
Captaining the club in the Premier League, the Welshman offered a calming influence in the middle of the park - something synonymous with his game in West Yorkshire.
He has put in performances to remember, including when Leeds beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, while he is the sort of character Farke should be looking to build around as he aims for further progression.
At 25, the best is still yet to come, and if he is to hit his peak in a Leeds shirt, he will go down in the books as a player to be remembered at Elland Road.
