Leeds United drama: John Eustace charged by FA for comments at Elland Road

Blackburn manager John Eustace has been charged by the Football Association for comments that he made after the draw with Leeds United.

An FA statement released on 16 January confirmed he has been charged with misconduct and has until 20 January to respond.

It is alleged that the Rovers boss implied bias of the officials after a 1-1 draw at Elland Road on 1 January, where the Whites were given a penalty.

Speaking after the game, Eustace made his thoughts clear, saying: "I thought it was a soft penalty. A really, really soft penalty. It's a fantastic football club, 36,000 in today and that puts the referee under pressure to make a decision.

"Last minute, at Elland Road, it's expected." [Lancashire Telegraph]

Leeds United get the last laugh

Daniel Farke's side has gotten the last laugh over Eustace after his post-match comments resulted in a charge from the governing body.

The Blackburn boss could face a touchline ban but it is more likely that he will be fined if found guilty.

However, that does not take away supporters' frustration over the result, their side was leading after Pascal Struijk's penalty until a defensive lapse allowed Danny Batth to equalise in the dying embers.

That result could come back to haunt the Whites if they fail to win automatic promotion at the end of the season.

The Elland Road club currently leads the Championship after 26 matches but Burnley and Sheffield United are both just one point behind with a huge chunk of the season still to play.

They must ensure that they finish in the top two to avoid the heartache that they suffered in the playoffs last season.
