Leeds United defender Nico Elvedi called out after Switzerland first vs Slovenia
Leeds United centre-back Nico Elvedi started for Switzerland against Slovenia on Saturday.
Thermoplan Arena hosted Bostjan Cesar's team in the Nations League on 3 October, with the home side winning 2-1.
After an early goal from Slovenia, Murat Yakin's side responded immediately, forcing an own goal from Erik Janza in the 10th minute, and Dan Ndoye subsequently scored just before the break.
Elvedi started alongside former Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji at the back and the two were solid for the most part as the Swiss got another three points.
Switzerland were favourites going into the game and, barring a few scares, dominated proceedings for the most part.
The Whites' defender did have a lapse of judgement early on that could've been detrimental and has been called out for it.
What Nico Elvedi got wrong in Switzerland win vs Slovenia
Elvedi has been impressive at Leeds ever since joining from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer.
The 30-year-old has carried his fine form at Elland Road into the international break, but did have a lapse in judgement against Slovenia.
Zan Vipotnik scored the opener in the second minute at Thermoplan Arena and the Whites' defender could've done better as the Swansea striker found the back of the net.
Describing the moment, Radio Central said that Elvedi was too far away from the Slovenian goalscorer after a swift counter-attack from the visitors.
Slovenia scored just over 90 seconds into the match, which marks the first time they have conceded inside two minutes under Yakin.
The former Basel defender has managed Switzerland since 2021, establishing them as a solid outfit and recently taking them to the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
Leeds United defence assessed after summer transfers
Elvedi technically replaced Sebastiaan Bornauw in the Leeds squad during the summer transfer window.
The Belgian ace joined Hamburg on loan after struggling for regular minutes under Daniel Farke.
Elvedi seems to have made an instant impression on the German manager, having worked with him at the Bundesliga club.
The Switzerland international has started four consecutive Premier League games for the Whites.
James Justin and Tarik Muharemovic have partnered Elvedi at the back amid Joe Rodon's absence.
Jaka Bijol, who faced his teammate in Slovenia's loss to the Swiss, has clearly fallen down the pecking order and his situation will be one to watch.
