Leeds United, Southampton and Burnely are all expected to take legal action against Everton, according to Simon Leaf.

The Toffees initially got a 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability rules.

They were then given four points back but the judgement was still clear that they had obtained a sporting advantage, at the expense of teams like Leeds.

“The appeal board’s decision very much paves the way for other clubs to take action against Everton — because the decision makes it clear that Everton obtained a sporting advantage from breaking the rules,” Leaf, one of the country’s leading sports lawyers, told i.

“So I would expect to see claims from the likes of Burnley, Leeds and Southampton, in particular, over the coming months. This may lead to a further snowballing effect if other clubs, such as Manchester City and Chelsea, are found to be in breach.”

Leeds United must use all possible avenues

Leeds, along with Burnley and Southampton, are well within their rights to take legal action against Everton following the appeal verdict.

The decision not only punished Everton for financial breaches but also questioned the integrity of the original commission's judgment.

This ambiguity highlights a lack of clarity within the Premier League's regulatory processes, potentially leading to further legal disputes and undermining the league's credibility.

Leeds and other clubs have a vested interest in upholding fair play and ensuring that all teams adhere to financial regulations without preferential treatment.

By holding Everton accountable for their breach, these clubs are advocating for transparency and accountability within football governance.

The Premier League must address these issues promptly to maintain the integrity of the competition and restore confidence among clubs and fans alike.
