Leeds 'thankful' recent transfer fell through after what happened v Sunderland

Leeds United failed to make a single addition in the winter transfer window, but they will be thankful that one deal never materialised after what happened against Sunderland.

Leeds certainly took a risk in the winter transfer window with their inability to make any additions to their squad, but as of now, it's looking unlikely to have any drastic effect.

A 2-1 win against Sunderland continued their push for promotion, increasing the cushion on third-placed Burnley to seven points heading into another crucial clash with Sheffield United.

However, one of their supposed winter targets was named in the starting lineup for the Black Cats, and the Whites may be thankful that they never pushed ahead with a deal.

Leeds failed to sign Sunderland ace in January

Several players were linked with a move to Elland Road prior to the window closing in early February, but with Daniel Farke happy with his squad, none of the deals materialised.

One of those linked to Leeds was Dennis Cirkin, but after his showing against the Whites, they will be thankful they didn't pursue a deal any further.

Cirkin struggled to stop the threat posed by Dan James, who caused problems all night, while looking somewhat suspect when in possession.

Sunderland were always unlikely to sanction Cirkin's exit given his importance to the side, and any interest in the defender was swiftly curtailed.

Leeds January decision looking to be the right one

Many saw the Whites' inability to secure additional quality as a huge risk, but Leeds have arguably been on their best run of the season since that.

Of course, as with anything in football, any real judgement will be put on hold until the end of the campaign, with a final decision to come based on whether or not they achieve promotion.

Finish inside the top two and it looks to have been a masterstroke. Fail in those attempts and questions will be asked as to why the window wasn't utilised.

However, the latter appears rather unlikely at this stage with Leeds certainly in the driving seat to go on and achieve a return back to the Premier League.
