Pep Guardiola is having a rough time at Manchester City this season.

His side have been knocked out of the Champions League and sit fourth in the Premier League, 17 points behind league leaders Liverpool.

There have been suggestions that City supporters will turn on the manager despite multiple successful seasons in recent years.

However, they have been told to follow the example set by Leeds United supporters.

Man City urged to follow Leeds United fans

Marcelo Bielsa is a hero at Elland Road as the Uruguayan manager took the Whites back to the Premier League promised land after a 16-year absence.

His side finished ninth in their season back in the top-flight but the 69-year-old departed with the club sitting 16th during the 2021/22 season after four successive losses in which Leeds conceded 17 goals.

The Citizens supporters have been urged to copy the way Whites fans treated Bielsa by Neil Moxley, writing in the Sunday People (page 51, 23 February), he said: "I cannot believe supporters will turn on him.

"Leeds United's didn't do that with Marcelo Bielsa, and that was at a different level.

"Even when they were being battered at Elland Road, they refused to call for his head. I don't want to see Guardiola suffer either, he deserves better than that, much better."

Leeds could join Man City in the Premier League

The Elland Road outfit are on their way to joining City in the Premier League next season with the Championship season nearing a conclusion.

Daniel Farke's side lead the division, with a two-point margin over second-place Sheffield United and a four-point advantage over Burnley in third.

They can increase their automatic Championship promotion chances tremendously with a victory against the former on Monday (24 February) which would give them a five-point advantage over the Blades and a seven-point buffer over Burnley with 12 games remaining.

The Whites have dropped 20 points on the road compared to just seven at home, which will be a concern heading into the contest.

However, the second-tier leaders simply cannot afford to drop points on Monday, as that would make the promotion race very tense in the final few weeks, giving the two sides below them a chance of success.

Securing three points at Bramall Lane would allow Leeds to drop points in their future matches and still be in a commanding position to join City and Guardiola, if he is still in the job, next season.
