Emmanuel Latte Lath could be set to quit Middlesbrough in a sensational January boost for Leeds United, according to The Sun.

The Ivorian is ranked fourth in the Championship goalscoring charts with eight goals in 21 matches so far this season.

However, the newspaper's print edition [17 December, page 49] reports that the £20million-rated Boro ace could be set to leave the Teesiders in the January transfer market amid interest from Premier League Ipswich Town.

The report features quotes from the player's agent Matthias Veneroso which make positive reading for Whites supporters, he said: "Eight goals in the first part of the season, we expect something to happen in January."

Leeds United can't rely on rivals

Daniel Farke's side cannot rely on their rivals to slip up in the battle for automatic promotion to the top-flight.

The Whites must ensure that they do enough to secure a return to the Premier League and do not have to concern themselves with the results of other teams.

Latte Lath's potential departure would be a boost but there are four other teams challenging the Elland Road club for one of the two automatic places.

The battle for promotion is razor-close at the moment with Sheffield United and Leeds occupying the top two places with Burnley, Sunderland and Blackburn all within five points of the Whites.

Boro are a further three points behind but things can change very quickly in the second-tier and they could find themselves back in contention in the near future.

If they lose Latte Lath though it is hard to see that happening and would be a boost for the Whites but they still have to focus on their own business.
