Joe Rodon ‘colossal’ in Oxford v Leeds as ‘sensational’ claim made on Sky Sports

Joe Rodon was the standout performer for Leeds United as they earned a 1-0 victory over Oxford on Friday.

Leeds returned to the top of the Championship table after claiming all three points at the Kassam Stadium on 18 April, thanks to a first-half goal from Manor Solomon.

However, Rodon deserves all the plaudits for the winner, as it was his defence-splitting through ball to Jayden Bogle that allowed Solomon to find the back of the net.

The centre-back was also the reason why Karl Darlow had a quiet game in goal, winning almost every aerial duel that he went for.

Rodon 'exceptional' in Leeds win v Oxford

It was no surprise that Rodon was named as the man of the match on Sky Sports towards the end of the game, even though Solomon and Bogle were directly involved in the only goal.

Andy Hinchcliffe was blown away by the former Tottenham's display in the heart of the Whites' defence, describing his performance as 'sensational'.

"Joe Rodon has had a sensational game", Hinchcliffe said on Sky Sports (18 April, 9:44 pm).

The former Everton ace could not stop waxing lyrical about the Wales international as the pundit hailed the Leeds star as 'colossal' minutes later.

"He's been a colossal in this game", he said.

Elland Road outfit on course for Premier League promotion

With 91 points to their name, Leeds now have more points than they gathered last season (90).

While Burnley are level on points with the Whites at second place, Farke's side have a superior goal difference of 54, as opposed to the Clarets' 45.

The Elland Road outfit can seal automatic promotion to the Premier League as early as Monday (21 April), when they host 16th-placed Stoke City at home.

As Burnley and Sheffield are locking horns with each other, there is a strong possibility that Leeds book their place in the top flight on Monday.
