How the media reacted to Dominic Calvert-Lewin's cameo in England win vs Czechia
Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin earned his 14th England cap on Tuesday night when he came off the bench against Czechia.
It was a routine 3-0 victory for Thomas Tuchel's side, who ended the international break in the best possible way.
Vladimir Coufal's own-goal got the ball rolling for the Three Lions in the 27th minute before Harry Kane scored either side of half-time to round off the comprehensive victory.
Calvert-Lewin replaced the England captain in the 82nd minute, with Tuchel keen to see if the 29-year-old Leeds ace can add to his four-goal tally for the national team.
Unfortunately there wasn't enough time for that, but Calvert-Lewin will no doubt be boosted by his international appearances ahead of returning to domestic duty with Leeds this weekend.
But how did the media react to Calvert-Lewin's cameo against Czechia?
Media outlets say the same thing about Dominic Calvert-Lewin appearance vs Czechia
Because he was substituted into the game with just eight minutes of normal time to play, Calvert-Lewin had a very small amount of time to make an impact.
Stats by Sofascore show that he only had seven touches of the ball, lost possession three times and failed to get a shot off at goal.
He did, however, complete all three of the passes he attempted.
Calvert-Lewin could've been criticised for his lack of impact, but ultimately, no impact was required as Tuchel's men strolled to victory.
The Sun, The Standard and The Mirror all failed to give Calvert-Lewin a rating due to the little time he spent on the pitch.
He did, however, get a 6/10 from BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel.
The Guardian pointed out a moment where Calvert-Lewin could have had an opportunity to score, saying: "[Rio] Ngumoha jinks elegantly down the left before flicking a cross in for Calvert-Lewin, who can’t connect, six yards out. What quality England have in depth … and Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon have been given the night off!"
Does Calvert-Lewin have a future with the England national team?
Calvert-Lewin hasn't really had much time to impress during this round of Nations League fixtures.
He came off the bench for the final 13 minutes against Spain and then for the last eight against Czechia, so he was hardly being given a clear opportunity by Tuchel.
Instead, it will have been what happened behind the scenes that Tuchel will have learned from most in training.
All the Leeds man can do now is continue his fine form for the West Yorkshire club, who he's scored four goals for in seven appearances across all competitions this season.
If the ex-Everton star can continue his rate of scoring in every other Premier League game, as he has done this term already, there's a good chance he'll be called up again in November.
