How Leeds plan to capitalise on World Cup buzz as Ethan Ampadu makes 'massive' admission
Leeds United have been presented with a valuable opportunity to grow their profile in the United States this summer.
Daniel Farke's side will travel across the Atlantic for pre-season fixtures against Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool.
The tour comes immediately after the conclusion of the World Cup, when interest in football across North America should remain particularly high.
That timing could place the Whites in front of supporters who may not usually follow the club closely.
With this in mind, captain Ethan Ampadu has recognised the importance of Leeds giving those fans something to remember.
This summer, the West Yorkshire outfit must ensure that the trip becomes much more than just a standard series of friendlies given the rewards they can reap.
Ethan Ampadu makes 'massive' Leeds United admission
Speaking to LUTV, Ampadu highlighted the potential significance of Leeds visiting the United States so soon after the World Cup.
“It’s massive,” he said. “We know Leeds fans are everywhere. Obviously with the World Cup and being in America now and the growth of football out there, I’m sure it is going to get even bigger.
“So to go out there just after a World Cup, hopefully the fans aren’t bored of football and we can give them something to be excited about, to look forward to ahead of the season coming.
“It’s going to be good and it’s going to be fun, so yeah, we’re excited for it."
Leeds will first face Wrexham before meeting Premier League rivals Sunderland and Liverpool.
Alongside the usual preparation for the season, the tour serves a much bigger purpose as Leeds further settle down as a commercial giant of English football.
Leeds must capitalise on post-World Cup spotlight
The club could hardly have chosen a better time to strengthen their relationship with supporters in the United States.
The World Cup has placed football at the centre of attention throughout the nation, and the club’s arrival shortly afterwards gives them an opportunity to benefit from that momentum.
Facing Liverpool should attract significant interest, while Wrexham’s profile in the United States could also expose Leeds to a broader audience.
MOT Leeds News has previously covered the importance of the summer for Leeds, as the Whites aim to fight higher than the relegation battle, but this summer could see long-term financial rewards come the way of the club.
If they are to strengthen the relationship with their Stateside fans and even grow the fanbase, then the trip will have been a success.
