How Jurgen Klopp could finally get his Anton Stach wish after Germany latest
Leeds United's Anton Stach may be one man relieved to see Julian Nagelsmann dismissed as Germany manager.
Nagelsmann, while not yet confirmed to have stepped down after a shock World Cup exit to Paraguay, has previously made comments in the media discussing the limitations of Stach's qualities.
Nagelsmann had believed the midfielder was both poor in his tackles and in winning his aerial battles.
It had left the Leeds ace with limited international opportunities but that could now change amid the latest involving Jurgen Klopp.
Widespread reports have the former Liverpool manager as the front-runner to take over from the 38-year-old.
And based on previous history, that can only be a positive sign for Stach and his future with Germany.
Jurgen Klopp once wanted to sign Anton Stach, here is when
Klopp is seemingly quite fond of Stach and his qualities, as he was once on the German's transfer radar at Liverpool.
Reports from Sky Sports Germany back in March 2023 had linked the then-Bundesliga star with a switch to Anfield.
Liverpool at the time were undergoing a midfield crisis and were looking to revamp their central areas of the pitch.
In the end, the Reds would instead sign Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo.
But the sheer fact that Stach was one of the options could certainly provide him more chances should Klopp take over as German manager.
So far, the 27-year-old has managed to make just three appearances for the German national side, and he will be eyeing a place in their EURO 2028 side.
Upon his first call-up under Hansi Flick back in 2022, he was described as a player with "high quality" as per the Bundesliga website - a fact Leeds fans have come to know all too well.
When could Stach make a return to the German national team?
Germany's World Cup is over and they will now be looking ahead to begin their rebuild.
If Klopp is hired, his first games as manager will take place in the newly extended international break
The former Champions League winning manager would oversee games against the Netherlands at home (24 September), a home and away tie against Greece (27 September and 4 October).
Additionally Germany will also face Serbia (1 October) in Group B of League A in the UEFA Nation's league.
So, Stach will need to start the season off strongly to work his way into the plans of whoever is named Germany manager.
Leeds do have some favourable fixtures heading into that international break, facing just one of last season's top eight in the opening five games.
