West Ham's Karren Brady has delivered her verdict on the one issue left outstanding in the Premier League that could have an effect on promotion for Leeds United – what happens if the season is curtailed.

She said it would be "heartbreaking" if three teams were relegated off-the-pitch – a big switch from her previous null & void position.

However, in her column in the Sun, she revealed a fascinating edict from the Premier League on Thursday about what would happen if teams couldn't field their strongest teams or had players out after testing positive.

"As long as you have 15 fit players (including one goalkeeper) made up from either your 25-man squad list or from your Under-21s you will be deemed to have a team fit enough to fulfil the fixture."

That gives the clearest indication yet of the determination to get the Premier League season finished – and that's fantastic news for Leeds fans.

Brady went on to say that if the government said that games couldn't be played, possibly after a second spike, the season would be ended early.

"Well at that point the season will be curtailed, and the Premier League are recommending a points-per-game formula to decide the award of places.

"And on this calculation, three teams will be relegated — what a heartbreaking end to the most unfortunate season in history."

Brady had previously called for the season to be made null and void if the remaining fixtures couldn't be played.

There are still clubs near the bottom of the league who want relegation taken off the table if the Premier League doesn't fulfil its fixtures.

However, it looks like they're in the minority, with the Premier League and the FA reportedly insisting that relegation will happen however the campaign is decided.

West Ham are one of the clubs who could be in trouble, sitting just outside the relegation zone.

If the season was finished on unweighted points-per-game they would be safe. However, if it was done on a weighted model, then West Ham would be relegated.

The former is the most likely option now and it's amusing that Brady's stance has softened now it looks like her team will be okay.

It's moved from "null and void" to "heartbreaking" for the three teams who will get relegated.
