We're delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he'll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has warned that if Leeds don't get promoted, Kalvin Phillips will leave the club amid reports of a £20m release clause in the midfielder's new deal.

There was plenty of speculation around Phillips last summer but he stayed with Leeds and signed a new contract.

The £20m release clause was added to his contract despite Leeds reportedly rejecting a £27m bid for him last summer.

Leeds were looking nailed on for promotion before Christmas but now it's very much back in the balance.

Leeds are still second but on the same points as Fulham having squandered an 11-point buffer.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, "Phillips was a huge boost for Leeds on Tuesday but if they don’t go up this season, he will leave.

"His future depends first on promotion, then it depends on his choice. There won’t be any shortage of suitors.

"As a Leeds fan looking in, they’re not going to be deluded and think Phillips will stay for another year in the Championship.

"If they’re in the Premier League Phillips will likely be a player with them."

Asked about the £20m release clause Robinson said, "It’s a great price for a player of that quality. He’s made that holding midfield position his own."

Leeds United

There's plenty riding on Leeds getting promoted to the Premier League this season.

Phillips is a player they're likely to lose if they don't go up and that will be a massive blow for fans and for the local-born player.

They could also lose Andrea Radrizzani and manager Marcelo Bielsa, along with big-money players like Jean-Kevin Augustin and Jack Harrison.
