Farke 'must heed Roy Keane advice' to avoid Leeds United sack

Daniel Farke has Leeds United on the verge of promotion to the Premier League.

There had been speculation surrounding his future after the Whites won just one of six matches to relinquish their lead at the summit.

His Leeds side are now the favourites to secure the Championship title after results went their way on Tuesday, with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough and Sheffield United and Burnley both dropping points.

However, the German has been warned about the dangers of being promoted to the top flight.

Keane offers Farke advice as Leeds prepare for promotion

Farke is aware of the problems that can come with being promoted to the Premier League as he achieved exactly that with Norwich City twice.

He was sacked in November 2021 with his Canaries team sat bottom of the top flight and he must take Keane's advice to avoid a similar fate with Leeds.

The former Manchester United sent a general warning to the teams that will be promoted and it is one that Farke should take notice of.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast (10 April), Keane said: "Don't put your players under pressure by playing a certain way.

"You have to get to a stage where you say 'look lads, don't overplay it', there is nothing wrong with that.

"If you are a defender and the manager asks you to play out but you don't think you are good enough, that is on the manager, you cannot be asking lads to do something that they cannot do."

Leeds focus must be on securing promotion

There could still be plenty of twists and turns in the race for promotion, so Farke needs to keep his team focused on their ambitions this season rather than focusing on what could happen in the future.

It makes no sense to worry about a problem that might happen, when promotion is not guaranteed yet with the Blades and the Clarets chasing the Whites down.

The German will have been relieved to get back to winning ways after a miserable run, and he must endure that his side do not take their foot off the gas in the run-in, with Daniel James likely to be key to that.

They will be confident of securing a top-flight berth as their only fixture against a top ten side is the clash with Bristol City (28 April), with the rest coming against bottom-half sides.

The Elland Road outfit cannot afford to get complacent, though. They must do their job and win all their matches and put it beyond doubt.

Failure to do so could lead to a similar heartache to last year when they were forced to settle for a playoff spot, despite hitting the 90-point mark and ultimately losing to Southampton in the final at Wembley.
