Dominic Calvert-Lewin draws Erling Haaland comparison after what he did in Leeds win vs Newcastle

The plaudits continue to roll in for Dominic Calvert-Lewin after his impressive performance in Leeds United'd 4-1 win over Newcastle United.

The England striker has now officially again scored twice in the resounding victory over the Magpies.

Initially, his first - which put Leeds 2-0 up - was awarded to Jayden Bogle, after it was judged his thumping header hit his team-mate on the way in.

However, Leeds appealed against the awarding of that goal, and it has now been given to Calvert-Lewin once again.

There was no disputing his second, where he sat Sven Botman down before curling past Lukas Hornicek shortly before half-time.

His performance really caught the eye of BBC Radio Leeds reporter Jonathan Buchan, who waxed lyrical over something Calvert-Lewin did.

Calvert-Lewin has been an excellent free signing for Leeds.

Joining ahead of the 2025/26 campaign after leaving Everton, Calvert-Lewin scored 14 Premier League goals last season.

He now officially has three again this term following the Premier League's ruling, which be all accounts is absolutely the right decision.

Calvert-Lewin rose above several bodies, including Bogle's, to meet James Justin's teasing right-win cross with an emphatic header.

It was his athletic leap and the way be bulldozed everyone around him that really impressed Buchan, and drew a comparison with Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.

Speaking on the Don't Go To Bed Just Yet podcast, before the Premier League's decision, Buchan said: "I was really disappointed it went down as a Bogle goal because for me that was such a good goal by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

"He was a monster, it was Haaland-esque."

Will Calvert-Lewin get an England call-up?

Calvert-Lewin returned to England's squad earlier this year after performing so well for Leeds last term.

However, the 29-year-old did not make Thomas Tuchel's squad as Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney were selected to back up Harry Kane.

With both Watkins and Toney playing in Saudi Arabia, surely Calvert-Lewin will get his opportunity for the upcoming international break.

He is a proper number nine, and a player capable of bringing others into play, and scoring goals himself.

Calvert-Lewin deserves the call, and surely if Tuchel has been paying attention he cannot overlook him for the squad.
