Does Daniel Farke have an uncomfortable truth to acknowledge about Anton Stach?

Anton Stach is a much-loved figure among the Leeds United fanbase.

Leeds paid £17.4million to Freiburg to sign the Germany midfielder in the summer of 2025.

Stach enjoyed an excellent first campaign in a Leeds shirt, and was a key performer in a side that ultimately finished well clear of the relegation zone.

But an untimely ankle injury sustained at the end of last season led to a huge disappointment for Stach.

The 27-year-old would miss out on Germany's World Cup squad, and has had to work hard to get back to full fitness.

He has been a regular for Leeds so far this season, but is there an uncomfortable truth that Daniel Farke has to address?

There is a school of thought that Stach has now performed to his best standard so far this season.

It has to be said there is context behind that, with Stach recently speaking about the mental and physical toil his ankle injury caused him.

And even despite his struggles, Germany manager Jurgen Klopp saw hit to include him in his squad for the upcoming international fixtures.

However, there is no point in denying that Stach has had his struggles in a Leeds shirt this term.

According to WhoScore on X, Stach tops the list for most lost possessions in the Premier League this season with 92, ahead of Bruno Fernandes (90), Kevin Schade (90), Dominik Szoboszlai (81), and Florian Wirtz (81).

Is Anton Stach's Leeds form an issue for Daniel Farke?

Stach's drop-off was particularly noticeable in the goalless draw against Crystal Palace.

There was no lack of effort, but his usual quality on the ball was lacking as it has been for much of the early stages of the campaign.

Stach's pass accuracy for the season stands at only 69 per cent, which drops to 64 per cent in the opposition half.

He has created six chances in total, but none that are defined as big chances, while his expected assists stands at just 0.31 (he has zero).

Farke knows full well the quality Stach has, but at what point does he have to consider taking him out of the team?

Leeds are well stacked (no pun intended) in central midfield, and there will be plenty chomping at the bit if Stach isn't reaching his usual standards.

The international break offers some breathing space for Farke to ponder it, but also a chance for Stach to get away from the pressures of Premier League football and find some form on the international scene.

But, the uncomfortable truth is that Farke needs to see more from Farke in a Leeds shirt.
