Blackpool have opened talks to sign Leeds United defender Olly Casey in the summer, according to Adam Pope.

The BBC journalist has reported that Neil Critchley is keen on the under-23s sensation after his side earned promotion to the Championship.

It is reported that Casey is open to leaving Elland Road, as he hunts for more first-team action to kickstart his senior career.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Pope shared the major update on Casey despite him signing a three-year deal last season.

"Blackpool in for Casey," he wrote. "Newly-promoted Championship club Blackpool want to take Leeds United defender Olly Casey to Bloomfield Road on a permanent deal.

"Casey, 20, has made 1 senior start for Leeds & is open to a move to secure more playing time. Blackpool boss Neil Critchley is keen on Casey who has two years left on his deal at Elland Road."

Shock?

After playing a huge role in the under-23s winning the Premier League 2 Division 2 title last season, Casey will have been hoping for more senior minutes.

Based on this, it appears as though Marcelo Bielsa thinks differently, despite playing him in games such as the FA Cup defeat at Crawley.

There are too many defensive options throughout the club, and unfortunately for Casey, Charlie Cresswell is probably the next in line at Elland Road.

This would be a good move for all parties, as the Whites would get some money after his new contract, and Casey would get more minutes in a competitive league such as the Championship.

We don't expect there to be many stumbling blocks in this one, especially with all parties looking as though they're open to the deal.
