Alan Shearer unimpressed with Leeds v Man United

Leeds United crashed to yet another embarrassing defeat at Old Trafford on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Alan Shearer has claimed that the Whites just couldn't cope with long balls behind their defence, and were punished accordingly.

Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood profited from that, with four of the five goals coming from long balls behind the defence.

Speaking on Match of the Day last night, Shearer insisted that the Whites struggled to deal with the long passes all afternoon.

"There's the run off the ball, there's the ball behind," he said.

"The touch with the right foot, the finish with the left, and Leeds just couldn't cope with it."

Got it badly wrong.

Marcelo Bielsa will know that the blame lays at his door.

The players have to take some of that too, as their performance was simply embarrassing at times yesterday afternoon.

There are no excuses for bringing the game level early in the second half, and then conceding four goals and being battered.

Robin Koch in midfield didn't work once again, and despite glimpses, he was dominated and lost Fernandes far too many times.

We hope for serious changes against Everton next week, and that Kalvin Phillips coming back in will resume normality.

There was serious hope that we had learnt our lessons after results like this last season, but we can't help but have some sort of nerves moving forward.
