Jess Rousseau speaks out after Leeds United Women win v Durham Cestria
Jess Rousseau has admitted that the final few minutes of the Leeds United Women’s win against Durham Cestria were “tough” for the entire team.
Despite her admission, the forward managed to bag a brace in the final five minutes of the clash which saw her team win 4-2.
Rousseau, last season’s Player of the Year, bagged her first goals of the season and helped push the Whites back up the table into fourth place.
Speaking to the Official Leeds United Website (22 September), the striker shared her thoughts on the game.
“I think it was a tough three minutes [the end of the match], we knew we had to do what our jobs were and we’ve stayed true to that until the end of the game,” she said.
“We’ve nicked a couple of goals in the last few minutes and got the three points which is the main thing.”
Jess Rousseau back to scoring form for Leeds United women
Rousseau was Leeds’ Player of the Season last term after managing to bag 23 goals in just 24 games.
While it’s likely taken the striker longer than she’d have wanted to get her name on the scoresheet, there’s no doubt that they couldn’t have come at a better time.
Leeds have had a difficult start to the season with a mix of results.
No game is straightforward at this level, with Drew Green sharing that a previous game against Halifax Women was “never easy” despite a 2-0 victory.

Leeds fans will be hoping that their recent upturn in form will carry on across the rest of the season.
In addition to this, they will no doubt be hoping that no games get called off due to having a waterlogged pitch as they did last term [LUWFC Supporters Group, 10 March].
There’s still plenty of time left in the season for things to change of course but for now, at least, things seem to be looking up for the Whites.
