Mohamed Amoura: 49ers to get £8.7m discount as Leeds’ transfer interest remains for next window

Mohamed Amoura is still on Leeds United’s radar ahead of the summer window.

The Whites chased the Algerian’s signature in the winter window, but ultimately a deal was not on the cards.

With the future of Joel Piroe up in the air, and a reliance on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to lead the line, the LS11 outfit will be in need of attacking reinforcements.

In that vein, the 49ers have seemingly returned their sights to a player they have previously admired to solve the issue.

Now, Leeds’ failed move for Amoura in the last window may end up helping them now, as a discounted price has been mooted.

How much could Leeds sign Mohamed Amoura for?

Missing out on any transfer target is not ideal, and when Leeds failed to convince Jorgen Strand Larsen, they turned to Amoura.

However, they were also unable to get that move over the line in the final days of the winter window. But they could now return for him.

According to L’Equipe, Leeds’ “genuine interest” in Amoura will “remain so next summer”. However, now, the Peacocks will face competition from Everton for the Algerian as well.

The report also states that Wolfsburg had wanted €40million (£34.8million) previously to consider letting their forward leave.

However, the French outlet now shares that €30m (£26.1m) is his new valuation ahead of the summer window.

While the Whites could not land Amoura previously, the German outfit’s discount of £8.7m could now be a rare positive emerging from the failed pursuit.

It would certainly represent a better option than Piroe currently provides.

How has Amoura got on since his failed move away from Wolfsburg?

Amoura wanted to leave Wolfsburg and was subsequently dropped by the Bundesliga side for his actions in trying to do so.

Manager Daniel Bauer blasted the forward for not putting the team first, so when he ultimately did not get his wish, he had to be reintegrated into the side.

Since then, his output has dropped for Wolfsburg. In his first 14 Bundesliga games this season, the Algerian contributed to nine goals in 17 matches. This was a goal or assist every 1.8 games.

In the last nine, he has just had a hand in three goals – a hit rate of a contribution every three matches.

His total of 12 goals and assists in 26 appearances is still impressive; however, his drop-off may be a sign that he is still unhappy in Germany.
