Mohamed Amoura and Lois Openda have both emerged as options for Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

Over the last few weeks, links to players in the forward department have continuously emerged, highlighting it may be an area of priority for Daniel Farke.

While Dominic Calvert-Lewin has popped up with important goals, in recent weeks, he has struggled to produce the same level of impact.

The Englishman has just one goal in his last 11 Premier League games for the Whites.

Overall, Amoura and Openda, on the surface, look like exciting transfer options for Leeds, but in all likelihood, only one will arrive.

Why Mohamed Amoura is a better option than Lois Openda

Don’t get it wrong, a Leeds move for Amoura or Openda would be an exciting acquisition by the 49ers at Elland Road.

However, when both players are being linked with fees above £26million, then you come to think it is only one or the other.

Both strikers are seasoned professionals at both the club and international levels. Amoura has 44 Algerian caps, with Openda representing Belgium on 33 occasions.

However, when it comes to signing a forward, Amoura may make more sense.

This season, the Algerian has been in much better form than Openda, who has scored just once in the Seria A.

Meanwhile, Amoura has netted eight times for Wolfsburg in Germany.

Additionally, the Belgian striker is more of a goalscorer, despite his struggles this season, while the Algerian has proved himself as both a finisher and as a creator.

This season, the 25-year-old has created seven big chances for his teammates, while also averaging one key pass per game.

Amoura has more in his locker than just goals, and that could make him an excellent partner to Calvert-Lewin if needed.

Financially Amoura makes more sense for Leeds as well

When it comes to the finances, a move for Amoura makes much more sense. According to Capology, Openda is on £124,000 a week.

Meanwhile, the Algerian takes home £79,000 a week. At Elland Road, Calvert-Lewin is currently the highest earner with a reported £100,000 per week.

So, when it comes to wages, Amoura fits into the Whites’ structure much more as well. The Algerian would not set the LS11 outfit back as much as Openda.

In a system of squad-cost-ratio rules, the 49ers cannot afford to get sucked into overpaying on a forward and overpaying on his wages as well.

Amoura makes much more sense from a sporting and financial sense.
