Leeds United to face battle to keep Karl Darlow as Tottenham Hotspur ‘sound out’ deal

Leeds United’s goalkeepers have had a rollercoaster of a season, with both Karl Darlow and Lucas Perri rotating in and out as number one.

In the end, it was the Welshman that ran out as the ultimate winner, finishing the season as Daniel Farke’s undisputed first choice.

At the beginning of the season, that may have been a surprise, but as his performances continued, it was clear the German made the right choice.

Darlow, however, may not be at Elland Road next season, with his contract set to expire. Although, all signs point to Farke pushing to keep the ‘keeper.

Ahead of Leeds’ transfer window, they may end up losing that battle to keep Darlow with Tottenham Hotspur now circling.

What has been said about Tottenham’s interest in Leeds’ Karl Darlow?

Whether or not Leeds keep Darlow, another goalkeeper will be needed at Elland Road, with Illan Meslier’s contract also expiring.

Additionally, the performances of Perri should push the Whites to attempt to recoup some of their transfer fee.

But they could end up needing more than just one player between the sticks.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham “have also sounded out Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow” with the Lilywhites in the market for a new goalkeeper.

The North London side are also viewing Manchester City’s James Trafford, who is on Leeds’ radar as well.

Darlow has enjoyed an impressive campaign, usurping Brazilian Perri between the sticks after a run of mistakes and poor displays.

The 35-year-old was key to the Whites squad, who helped steer the squad safely away from relegation and confirm their Premier League status.

Why Leeds need to move quick to keep Karl Darlow

With the Welshman’s contract coming to an end in June, the Whites will have to be quick to secure his services. Outside interest before agreeing terms could put a spanner in the works.

Farke has previously hinted that he wishes for Darlow to remain at Elland Road, telling reporters to “read between the lines” over the future of the 35-year-old.

The German has also heaped high praise onto the shot-stopper, stating at the end of April: “I think Karl has been fantastic in these last weeks.”

“Since the first day I worked with him, not just his performance on the pitch but also how he is as a human being – I’ve got not just a high respect for Karl, but I rate him so, so high.”

With the transfer window set to open in the next month and Darlow free to talk to other clubs, the priority in LS11 must now be to get their affairs in order, including those with contracts expiring.

Darlow must simply stay after the impressive season he has had for the Whites.
