Leeds United receive incentive to push for Leo Scienza move after Southampton ‘Spygate’ fallout

Leeds United could find themselves on the positive side of a “Spygate” situation years on from being embroiled in their own drama.

Southampton have been expelled from the upcoming play-offs following a review conducted by the EFL, leaving the door open to swoops for their key stars.

Brazilian Leo Scienza has been one of the Saints’ most influential assets throughout the campaign, and with his dream of reaching the Premier League in tatters, the Whites hold that advantage.

The EFL winger is not quite young either, coming in at 27 years old, leaving him little time to reach the top of English football.

Ahead of Leeds’ summer transfer window, Daniel Farke’s side have certainly received quite the boost for any pursuit.

Southampton remaining in Championship to hand Leeds a Leo Scienza boost

Southampton will have a tough time getting out of the Championship next season after receiving both expulsion from this year’s play-off final as well as a four-point deduction.

The saga is not over yet, as the St Mary’s outfit has appealed the decision, so they could still yet have a chance at promotion.

However, as things stand, Scienza will not be playing Premier League football with Southampton.

Leeds, who have been linked through reports from Brazil, for the Saints ace that picked up seven goals and 10 assists this season, could now be waiting to make their move.

With no promotion possible, Scienza has more incentive to push for an exit out of the south coast, thus providing the 49ers with incentive to proceed ahead with a transfer.

Now, it is simply a waiting game for the result of the appeal.

What is Leo Scienza’s release clause situation at Southampton?

Despite reports that Scienza had a £25million release clause, it has since emerged that is not the case.

According to Sky Germany, via Saints Extra, the 27-year-old does not have a get-out clause in his contract.

Leeds will have to revert to old-school negotiating if they wish to sign the player up, and after the “Spygate” drama, which has inadvertently affected the unsuspecting Southampton squad, many in the ranks may feel disillusioned and let down by their employers..

Numerous reports have since come out suggesting that the players could resort to taking Southampton to court over lost earnings due to the incident, and it could see plenty seek exits.

Scienza, who is attracting plenty of interest, including at Elland Road, will undoubtedly be at the fore of any summer approaches for Saints stars.
